The best in one of the best series

I got several of the "Feeling" books for my son when he was two, and I've simply not found a better series for discussing various emotions. The beauty is in the simplicity of the sentences -- it keeps the concepts clear so that a toddler can understand them, while leaving plenty of room for discussion with your older child. The illustrations demonstrate the ideas on each page vary well, and are great for asking questions with your toddler on what's happening in the pages and how the characters are feeling.

What I said above is true of all of the books, but the reason why I'm writing my review on this one, the "Kind" one, is because it was my son's favorite. He was very taken with the illustrations, and how to be kind to others. I still remember the day I went to pick him up and he excitedly exclaimed, "I was KIND!" when I heard about what a good day he had. If you don't get any of the other books in this series, get this one.

Creo que por muchas líneas concantenadas que escriba no podré reflejar cuánto me ha gustado esta novela. No sé qué me ha fascinado más: si la forma de escribir, los protagonistas, la ambientación o la trama (por favor, ¡si hasta la portada es preciosa!) . Sin lugar a dudas, todo ello hace que esta novela sea de 10, una historia apasionante y emotiva.

El único punto negativo, si es que se puede denominar así, es que se me ha quedado corta, quería seguir "viviendo" lo que Neill y Alain tenían, estar presente en sus tiras y aflojas y conocer más a otros personajes que me han encandilado (Sweet Pie y Germain).

Ojalá la autora decidiera hacer una historia de ellos, sobre todo del precioso ángel, es tan delicado y tan dulce que es imposible no caer a sus pies.

Tengo que destacar, de nuevo, la forma de escribir de Hendelie, es envidiable, lo hace fácil a los ojos del lector, con una maestría impresionante, una cosa es escribir y otra bien distinta hacer magia. La autora fuerza al lector a sentir las palabras, a paladear los sentimientos que afloran en cada página, a apreciar la literatura y a querer a sus personajes. Maravillosa, brillante y sublime.

Soy fan de Hendelie y su escritura me gusta mucho. Este libro es cortito, pero intenso y creo que los personajes son adorables y encantan de inmediato.Lo disfruté y sufrí mucho.
El único "pero" es que el final es demasiado abrupto, creo que se explicaron algunas cosas que eran tratadas con atención en el desarrollo del libro con demasiada rapidez. Y bueno, me hubiera encantado un final un poco mejor explicado... pero está bien, la verdad es que no me quejo.

¡Y no hay apéndices!

Till Kingdom Come

A prophecy told to second son, Prince Thrain Blackwater, many years ago is at last coming to fruition. Thrain hadn't truly believed the prophecy until recently when he met Prince Elias Trueheart during the intricate Spider's Web dance in the presence of his father, King Ungor and Elias's mother, Queen Alaina.

King Ungor sends eldest son Prince Baynor and Thrain to attack the Trueheart castle with orders to kill everyone. Thrain races through the castle to save Elias from certain death, to save their future together. Unfortunately, Thrain is forced to commit a heinous act upon Elias to save him from Baynor's brutality and a slit throat.

How will Elias ever forgive Thrain for the night his innocence was taken? Somehow Thrain must let go of the guilt as Elias must put the past to rest. Otherwise, their future and a prophecy for both kingdoms will never come true.

Prepare yourself for a dark and passionate tale in `Til Kingdom Come. Firmly set in medieval times, the characters are definitely a product of the period with their physicality, attitudes, and motivations. There is a warning here since non-consensual sex takes place. Although pivotal to the plotline, the forced sex still won't be accepted by some. Thrain is able to redeem himself and considering his upbringing, that's saying something while Elias manages to mature under the care of his lover. `Til Kingdom Come explores forgiveness, redemption, and the true power of love with a one, two punch.

Amazingly good , hot and thorough!

Okay,
I know I shouldn't write the review before I finish the book, but it is so good I had to. I'm almost done, but it's so good I slowed down because... yes you know... I don't want it to end.
So I paused and clicked to Amazon to see what other M/M books the author has available anticipating a heavy sense of loss, when I complete it.
Besides being nicely paced, hot and explicit in a sensible way... this book had me laughing in joy at some of the awkwardness expressed by the 2 characters trying to feel out each others true feelings.
The author has a real feel for the awkwardness and excitement of the beginning of a relationship. And the story details outside of the love story were captivating and well done, a real story... good length for the money, as well.
Well I'm going to go sample her other books... you, well you should purchase this one. : )

Lots of "step by step" examples. Loved the book!

My mind is excited when I think of the Raspberry Pi.

My first introduction to the Pi was when creating a CBT Nuggests Video course about BackTrack/Kali Linux and discovering that there was a flavor of Kali that ran on the Pi!

I was very interested when I learned of Tim's book, and have already put a list together of new things to try with the Pi such as learning Scratch (a programming language that comes with the Pi, and that Tim covers chapter 8), or having my son and I do one of the projects Tim shares in Part 3, such as the Pi Portable Webcam or the Retro Game Station.

I also appreciate the attention Tim takes in using small steps to keep the reader involved and on track.

For anyone who is interested in learning more about networking, programming, hacking or are just looking for an inexpensive and fun hobby, I would strongly recommend that you check out Tim's book: "Hacking Raspberry Pi".

Well-written and organized introduction to the Raspberry Pi. A few too many "Linux amazing, Windows bad" comments and insinuations sprinkled throughout the text for my liking but bashing Microsoft is all the rage nowadays, so not too surprising. The full-color pictures and multi-color text portions make the book an enjoyable read.

About the Author
Scott Gehlbach is Professor of Political Science, Lyons Family Faculty Fellow and Romnes Faculty Fellow at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; Senior Research Fellow at the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development at the Higher School of Economics, Moscow; and Research Associate of the Center for Economic and Financial Research at the New Economic School in Moscow. A specialist in Russia, Professor Gehlbach has made fundamental contributions to the study of economic reform, authoritarianism and accountability in organizations and government. Known for employing a wide range of research methods in his work, Gehlbach is the author of the award-winning Representation through Taxation: Revenue, Politics, and Development in Postcommunist States (Cambridge Studies in Comparative Politics) and numerous articles in top journals, including the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science and The Journal of Politics. His work has been supported by two Fulbright-Hays Fellowships and many other grants. Professor Gehlbach received his PhD in political science and economics from the University of California, Berkeley.

Don't Diss My Tribe

For the last few years I've been building my company to have a specific type of self-reinforcing corporate culture. There is still authority, there is still people with assigned roles, but I wanted my group to feel truly energized about working on our products and projects.

I have noticed over the years that management books recommend a lot of activities but the subtext was always this: communication is the heart of a good environment.

My psychological training (sorry tom cruise) has also given me great insights into what motivates and what demotivates people. But those mechanistic models of action and reaction were always searching for a unifying construct.

Ray's construct is tribal behavior and balancing our need to feel good about ourselves and the groups to which we belong.

In essence, people tend to gravitate toward groups that reinforce their self-worth. Traditional business structures tend to rigidly group people and, by doing so, people identify with smaller groups of their own design rather than their larger corporate or office group. The results are seldom good.

When I was working for a large consulting company, I was initially part of and later the lead of their Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Group. We had millions of dollars in contracts every year and, despite the work we put into educating the planners and engineers of what we did - they would routinely sub out ITS work.

At first we thought they were not getting what it was we were doing. But in reality what was happening was that they got much more value from subbing out our work. This value came from raising their stature in planning / engineering by being the "Prime" and maintaining their relationships with other companies thereby ensuring future work for their group.

Their tribal needs (engineering or planning tribes) were better served outsourcing the work, when our tribal needs (ITS tribe) would have been better served by keeping the work in house?

Who was right? Well, we both were. But in the end, the lack of communication between our groups created an adversarial atmosphere which impacted relationships and quality of work throughout the firm.

I find some holes in Ray's model - for example I find it a bit weak on the outside issue front. There are people out there who have issues outside the office that directly impact their response to things inside the office. Ray does cover this, but compared to his attention to detail on the rest of his model - this part seems a little weak.

Having said that, his model is sound and a great construct to help diffuse otherwise tense situations. You can be told that angry people have an unfulfilled need and that the proper response is to find out what that need is and discuss it all day ... but when someone is yelling in your face that's pretty hard to zero in on.

With Ray's model, there is a short cut to analyze the type of threat (as opposed to the specific threat) the person or group feels and then deal with that.

We're in the process of creating an employee manual and it's been bothering me for quite a while. It's rigid, dictatorial, and top-down. Great Boss Dead Boss has given me an inkling of how I'd like to re-create the concept of an employee manual. ... but it's just an inkling.

Lastly I'll note one other element of this model: when you think of your organization as an entity - as a tribe or whatever - it's important to give that entity substance. Substance that comes from a strong definition (not a mission statement) and a good sense of self.

Oddly, I had been working on that for the last few months. Gathering up the lore of Gray Hill Solutions, identifying why our processes work, and incorporating those two things into a single narrative to better explain why we do the things we do.

Suffice it to say, I'd highly recommend you read Ray's book.

Oh, and it's a narrative. But don't let that stop you.

Fantastic, delivers results

After first hand working with Ray, I received this book as a parting gift. I was fantastically impressed. The book delves into great detail on optimizing organizations and overcoming certain obstacles, such as culture clashes. It is absolutely amazing how well it puts all of the pieces of the puzzle together; it highlights those fundamental, pivotal points throughout the book, after having given the reader a chance to look at the problems through the eyes of a manager. Also praiseworthy is the way that the book puts all these points together; many of these points are seen in some fashion dispersed throughout an MBA, experience, and other books, but Ray puts them together in one unified place and gives them order. This book should be standard, core reading for managers. It takes so many lessons and puts them all together in one compact, meaningful book. I would also emphasize this reccommendation to those involved in M&A restructurings and those coming into a company in need of new practices. It has been key to the formation of practices at the recent venture that I've been leading, keeping the organization nimble and adaptive.

Unravelling the enigma in the riddle of motivation

Ray has done every organisational leader a great service by providing a framework for understanding the riddle wrapped in an enigma that is leadership. His insights into our tribal behaviour and how the dynamic of individual and collective security and value can not only be understood, but practically applied to the betterment of all, raises the bar for all interested in the field of group dynamics. His decision to use the form of a novel as the vehichle for the explanation of his insights makes them accessible and easily understood, whilst not diluting the power of the ideas themselves. I have always wondered how you can get a group of people with different and varied affiliations to not only work for the common good, but actually want to excel at doing so. In Great Boss Dead Boss, Ray shows the reader some high leverage answers to the question. The book, written in a captivating prose style, follows the protagonist Greg's journey of discovery, mentored by the crusty, wise Butch. In the storyline are countless nuggets of wisdom and insight which would serve well anyone who aspires to a position of leadership.
