This is the story of Kate McMannis and how she deals with a big case of writer’s block with the help of Erato her personal muse and Olive the additional part for all the threesomes scenes and actual love interest in this story. What else can I say about this story? P - O - R - N

I mean this book is 95% porn and 5% story with like 2% character development in that same story porcentage but I have to give props to the author for always making a point of including consent and her insistent effort to portray somewhat very realistic sexual experiences, it also somewhat addresses an abusive relationship (not in the physical sense but some aspects of it) and it made me uncomfortable of the lack of acknowledgment it got so weird. Still the whole book is an ode to sex and consent and how amazing consent sounds as a form of foreplay so, YAY FOR AWESOME CONSENSUAL EXPLICIT S E X!

Stars: 2.5 but if I have to give a round number it’d be 3 because I really like my porn with a plot and if it has angst and drama is a bonus, this isn’t plot driven porn so it’s like fanservice

Conclusion: Liked, but don't quite love it.

The Muse is no doubt sexy. But I can't help but think that this is Meghan's very own fantasy were she ever caught in a writer's block.

We have an erotica author, a Ms Kate McMannis (in retrospect, Meghan O'Brien herself), who was suffering from a severe writer's block. Due date's in two months and she barely got anything down. Just as she was about to put off writing, yet again, under the guise of needing something at the store, Erato appeared. Now here what I don't get nor received any tangible conclusion.

Who is this Erato who claimed that she's The Muse? Is she some kind of dirty, sexy, spectre? She has this uncanny ability to know what Kate is thinking, feeling, doing. It's freaky. So Erato comes in and they got down to something dirty. And miraculously, that helped Kate's juices (no pun intended, I swear!) to flow.

Overall, a sexy read. But I don't quite enjoy the idea of this being a dirty Mary Sue book. One of my favourite scenes: the part when Erato helped reenact one of Kate's dirty scenes.

Eh.... Not so much...

I paid $13 for this book (including shipping), and it's my moral duty to waive other readers off. If you really, really, must get this book, don't spring for a paperback. It's not worth the money, and you're stuck with a book you don't really like. The best way to read this book is for free on someone else's Kindle. If I'd have done that, I might not be so hard on it.

Anyway, the plot isn't original and it's kind of annoying: a muse turns up on the doorstep of an author stuck in a rut of writer's block. A little sexy-time with the muse and the creative juices start flowing again. A threesome with a chick they pick up in a bar leads to some tension and conflict... yawn... I'm bored again.

Look, this author writes sexy scenes. It's what she does best. I'm not too proud to admit that's exactly why I bought this book. But I gotta have more than a laundry list of sex acts. I need characters I can invest in, and without them, reading through the sexual checklist started to feel like work.

I just really didn't care about the author's dilemma (writer's block). I skimmed that part. The love interest was boring too. Her physical description was so matter of fact, that I got no sense of personality or character... would it kill the author to use a metaphor every once in a while? I just wasn't invested in the people. So when they had sex it didn't move me... it was only words on paper. There was no sense of danger or risk or emotional investment. And could the author please stop... PLEASE STOP with the pronoun confusion? If three women are having sex, then it gets really confusing if "she put her hand on her thigh..." Which "she" and which "her" are we talking about here? It's a buzz kill to try and figure out.

Which brings me to the muse. A MUSE. One of the nine Greek Muses... A GOD. The daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne (memory). This character should have been awesome. This was an opportunity for super coolness. Erato should have been badass as all hell. Instead she was boring... and annoying.

Erato is supposed to play the part of the "Manic-Pixie-Dream-Girl," a trope in itself, but whatever. Manic-pixie-dream-girls are fun. The problem is that Erato isn't manic. She's dull. Her supernatural nature is barely explored, and she spends way too much time in the kitchen making snacks and not enough time being a GOD.

I don't want to trash this book too much, because I've enjoyed some of the author's other work-- "The Night Off" being my favorite. Since I more than got my money's worth on that book, we'll call it even with this one.

Invest in yourself. Why you SHOULD or SHOULDN'T buy this book.

I would like to start with: Each review here has it's merits. The good ones AND the bad ones. Prepare for a lot of text.

Firstly about the Author:
The book was written by Mark Manson. From what I gather, he's a traveler and has helped men around the globe with psychological, sexual and 'connection' issues with women. He owns and runs the website [...] and has a few products there.

The Book:
The underlying theme I personally felt was about "investing in yourself" and being 'honest'. Having read a few PUA books, I felt this was its strong point. The book goes through a few parts, I may need to put a disclaimer here but this is how I felt about the book:

1. You are first introduced to the author and go through a few stories. One did hit the nail on the head with me. Mark then goes through different types of men and women.
2. You are then introduced to the theme of 'investing in yourself' - by investing in yourself, you reduce your 'neediness' and hence in turn become more 'attractive'. The principle is by actually having a voice, being who you want to be - you will actually find women who you want to be around, and more importantly you will most likely stand out around the crowd.
3. Mark then goes through his 3 key principles to achieve this: Honest Living, Honest Action and Honest Communication. By living who YOU want to be, by doing things that express who YOU are and by communicating YOUR honest thoughts - you will in turn become 'attractive'.

The parts that resonated with me:
1. Don't fear rejection
2. The more people you meet in life (through rejection) can only lead to meeting more people that you want to actually be with.
3. 'Demographics' - go to places where you will most likely find people you want to be with.
4. Express who you are and be proud of it.
5. Know your intentions - go out with those intentions.
6. You don't need openers. Just be yourself - 'My name is ______' works just fine.
7. Polarize people as soon as you can (shift them from attracted / not attracted )

There are other gems in the book I'm sure. After filtering in through all the reviews and comments I felt that I needed to write this review for those who are on the fence.

What to EXPECT:
1. A 'guide' to approaching women through honesty
2. A way to meet people you will most likely enjoy to be with in the future.
3. Build some confidence - get out there boy ;)
4. I want to state number 1 again: honesty is the key theme here.
5. Arguably a 'long term solution' & Arguably a more mature one?

What NOT to EXPECT:
1. This is not holy grail of knowledge, some of it is obvious. Hence why some reviews stated they knew most of this stuff. If you are living a great life (job etc), you are clear in your opinions and intentions, and you can communicate well don't bother with this book. You already got it =)
2. You won't get pick up lines, theories or openers.
3. You will not learn how to become the ultimate player - if that is your intention - there are great PUA options out there.
4. You will not attract ALL women - you will increase your chances to attract women that are more likely to be attracted in the 'real' you.
5. Numbers game. He hates it - so if you want to sleep with lots and lots of women and already doing so - read something else. Like I said - plenty of PUA books that tackle that.

Why is it NOT 5 stars?
1. You will note reviews on Amazon are very directed to how Mark has 'an agenda' in this book. I felt this agenda was that he is a bit 'against' Pick Up Artists (who don't use honesty - through tricks and things that clearly aren't who they are). Many times he will reflect on how PUAs don't use honesty and hence you won't find people for the long term. He did however state this in the book description. I don't like it when an author needs to constantly validate his method against PUAs. Just once is fine, not consistently. I also respect some PUAs I know and they are as direct as they can be - they aren't all about tricks.

2. My grammar is bad - but I am very certain this book was not proof read. It's messy and a bit over the place in terms of actual text. If you read the book, you will understand I am very strict to this sense only because he reads quite a bit of literature - he should also appreciate that paying readers expect a book that has been proof read.

3. It was not concise, when at many times it could have been. Again - I pitch this as a problem since he teaches us to be concise.

I personally liked the book - would of given it 3.5/5 (I'm going to round up here). I think its down to earth and very personal. You will see swear words, you will read Mark's stories, and you will find a gem that reminds you that you are unique. In a nutshell - it's a lifestyle book. I'm confident after reading this book I will not attract all the women in the world. I will however, find (possibly sleep with) more women that I personally want to be with. This is my personal goal though, and I prefer it this way.

Solid Guide to Being an Awesome Guy

This young author did something pretty amazing here. He wrote one of the best carrot on a string books I've ever read in my life.

To explain what I mean further, men love women and that is no secret. Not all men love leading an attractive lifestyle though. Not all men enjoy physical exercise, reading, eating right, becoming emotionally aware, or many of the other things this "guide to attracting women" teaches you you must do in order to be an attractive man. A lot of guys want easy solutions. This book explains that there are no easy solutions. I'd like to personally thank the author for laying that fact down for everyone. I hope any guys that reads this review takes one thing away from it, that there are no easy solutions and hard work is fundamental in success with your love life. This book will help you focus that hard work in ways that equal success.

A lot of books these days will sell you a shortcut method. The only shortcuts that might work don't work for very long. If you want to be an attractive man you have to work hard on yourself and get rid of a shortcut mentality completely. Women can tell when you throw a band aid over a shotgun wound that you are bleeding all over the place and that is all a lot of the information out there today is.

Another great thing about this book is it's (sadly) novel advice about vulnerability, connection, and emotional awareness. This book does a better job than any of the other men's dating advice I've read in the past 2 years explaining the rolls these things have in our growth and development as men and how working on this area of yourself will improve your love life drastically.

I really enjoyed the section on "How to be Fascinating" as well as the one on "Demographics". The polarizing section taught me a lot quickly too.

Overall I give this book 5 stars. It could have been a little shorter but considering how much bullcrap is out there that guys are reading to get girls it's not a big deal at all because it isn't a huge book full of crap. It's a huge book full of great information to teach you how to become an attractive man, relate and interact with women you find attractive, and have healthy relationships with them (as well as yourself). If the author is guilty of anything it's putting too much great information into one book and not charging you for sections of knowledge instead.

I can't wait to see what other books the author comes out with next as this seems to be his first.

If you are a guy that is having trouble with his love life, read this book immediately. Don't buy 20 different books and join a pickup lair and watch a bunch of Youtube videos. Read this book first. Evaluate where you stand as an attractive man first and understand wherever you are you can improve. It's a long road from where you are but if you start walking... no running down it, you will start to see some great results in your life soon.

Great book for self study

a very good book in fluid mechanics, all the mathematical drivation included, it has many sloved example make the reader understand more from just the theories, only disadvandge is the quality of the book as paperback with less quality paper, this book in my opinion surpass many American text book in fluid mechanics used in USA universities.

Really?

The plot on this one got sillier and sillier. I was willing to suspend my disbelief for the sake of the writing which was pretty good. But, when the heroine disguised as a male, plans to marry her boss's daughter and continue to live as a bricklayer, I got a little queasy. When the hero drinks Merlot (I doubt you would find that item on a bill of lading in 1819 England,) I really became disenchanted. I hung in there until the end when it really got stupid.

After thirteen years of masquerading as a man, will Sarah be able to live as a woman again?

When a tragic fire robbed Sarah Sanderson of her family, she fled and assumed the identity of her brother Sam. Thirteen years later, she has a steady job working as a bricklayer. Though her life is hard, she is satisfied and remembers very little of her life before the fire. Unfortunately, someone has not forgotten her. Suddenly Sarah finds her life in danger. Desperate, she seeks the help of an inquiry agent, William Trenchard.

William is immediately intrigued by Sarah and soon discovers she is a woman. Even though she doesn't have much to offer, he feels the need to protect her and takes the case. When another attempt is made on Sarah's life, William realizes he uncovered a much larger mystery than he or Sarah ever imagined. Through it all, Sarah begins to have feelings for William. She finds herself wishing she knew more about being a woman. Could he ever love someone as sunburned and simple as her? William also finds himself falling in love with Sarah, but is acutely aware that when the case is solved, Sarah will resume her proper place in society, a place beyond his reach. Will their differences tear them apart or will they take charge of their own destinies?

Sarah was definitely an entertaining heroine. She certainly didn't fit the mold of a rich aristocrat. Though her life is in danger, she's not a damsel in distress. She is strong and stubborn and insists on taking an active part in attempting to solve the mystery surrounding the fire as well as the current attempts on her life.

Though Sarah can work as hard as any man, she has no idea how to behave around William once she realizes she's fallen in love with him. While trying to figure out her feelings for William, Sarah also faces a tough choice. She can assume her rightful place in society as an aristocrat, but that would mean giving up the freedom she values when she lives as a man. Will Sarah have to choose between love and freedom? Can she find a way to have them both?

William is the perfect hero for Sarah. At first they seemed extremely mismatched. Sarah has led a simple and rough life, while William has led a privileged one. He also has a fondness for fine clothing. As a result, people tend to underestimate his abilities as an inquiry agent. Even Sarah doubts him when they first meet. However, beneath the velvet and gold is an intelligent and caring man who is more than a match for Sarah's strong will.

Not only is The Bricklayer's Helper a great romance, but it is also a wonderful blend of the historical and mystery genres. I found myself mulling over the clues when I wasn't reading the book and trying to guess who the mastermind behind the fires might be. Ms. Corwin had me guessing right up until the end and I was genuinely surprised when the culprit was revealed.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Bricklayer's Helper. The characters were unique and the romance was sweet. Anyone who likes their romance wrapped in a mystery will definitely want to check out The Bricklayer's Helper.

Sarah has been masquerading as a man and working as a bricklayer for thirteen years ever since the age of eleven. She was orphaned when her home, that of the Marquess of Longmoor, burned down and all her family had been killed. She gets a note from a Major Pickering saying he has some information concerning that fire. Before she can meet him he is stabbed to death on the street in front of her. Not knowing to whom to turn for help she goes into the Second Sons Inquiry agency and hires William Trenchard to look into the matter. An amused and idle William decides to take the case and the one pound retainer but soon he realizes that his client's life itself is in danger.

There are a few twists and turns to think about in this novel. Sarah is engaged to the boss's daughter and is to marry her within the week. What will she tell her bride on their wedding night? William finds himself strangely attracted to the young man. When he discovers his client's true sex and that she is one of the aristocracy he still is confused. As a paid employee, he no longer is in her social status and must ignore his feelings. Sarah also develops feelings for William and assumes that he could not love a woman who has worked as a common laborer.

There is romance in this novel but it is not overly done. One can get a bit frustrated with the two protagonists and want to give them both a good shake and tell them to express their feelings for one another and get it over with. But, there is still a lot of good mystery. And, how will Sarah ever take her place in society after being missing for thirteen years and not learning any of the social graces?

Although the novel is told in the third person, the chapters vary from seeing the events through William's eyes and seeing the events through Sarah's eyes. That helps to give a lot of depth to the characters.

One can get a very good look at life in early 1800s England and the strict social barriers that existed between classes. Although William is the younger son of an upper class family, his decision to work as an employee puts him in a lower social strata. If he were to call at the home of a former colleague, the butler may inform him that the tradesman's entrance is to the rear of the house. It would also not be suitable for him to go to one of his former clubs even as the guest of a current member. Things like that, aside from the mystery and engaging sub plots, make for interesting reading.

The Film World's Open Road

In a world where research all too often consists of a few minutes on the internet, Iain Borden's "Drive" shows how it's done, or how it should be done.

With Borden having watched an astonishing 450 movies ranging from silents to recent releases - which works out to almost two films per page - like its subject "Drive" manages to be many things at once. Overall it is a cultural examination of the automobile in film, exploring what these flickering images say about us at any given time. It also examines how the "movie and automobile industries grew together." As legendary director C. B. DeMille pointed out, and as quoted by Borden, they both reflect "the love of motion and speed, the restless urge toward improvement and expansion, the kinetic energy of a young, vigorous nation."

They're all here: road movies such as "Thelma and Louise" and "Vanishing Point;" great car chases including "Bullit," "The French Connection" and "The Italian Job;" and auto-psychological movies such as "Driving Mis Daisy," "Rebel Without a Cause," and "American Graffiti." By the way, despite what I cited above, Borden does not deal only in American films. He explores British ("Charlie Bubbles" is a favorite), European, and Asian films, too, from the well-known to the delightfully obscure.

My only complaint is that he might have tried to hard to shoehorn certain cinematic automobile experiences into specific categories. "Drive" consists of four main chapters; cities, journeys, what he calls "Motopia," and altered states. The divisions have to do with speed, terrain and form of driving. But, to adapt what Freud said about the cigar, sometimes a car chase is just a car chase. The scenes may not mean any more than the movie could afford them and the film makers thought the audience would enjoy them. I suspect that these divisions have as much do do with organizing a book as anything else, a way to bring order to a disorderly subject.

Overall, Borden's creation is thoughtful, gracefully expressed, and lavishly illustrated. So buckle your seat belt, I think you'll enjoy this "Drive."
