Good from a taxonomy standpoint; excellent references sited.

There is no doubt that Dr. Gupta invested a lot of time researching DDoS attacks. Although the book claims to be an "introduction" to DDoS attacks and defenses, I think it is more for readers with at least an intermediate knowledge of the subject (not for beginners). As a security consultant with a large ISP/MSSP, DDoS attacks are part of my daily professional life. So the reading level was perfect for me. What I really liked about the book are the references sited. I not only read the book but all the references, too.
The detection and mitigation methods discussed are advanced and up-to-date.
Three issues that kept me from giving it a 5-star review:
1) price,
2) font size (too small for my old eyes), and, more importantly,
3) I would like to have seen more discussion on modern attack tools and C&C methods.
I would recommend this book to consultants, analysts, and developers with intermediate-to-advanced knowledge of DDoS attacks. Security integrators and engineers may find the book to be too academic.
