I swear I'm not related to this author!

Sometimes when I see that a book has less than 10 reviews I'm skeptical because I figure the author just asked his/her 7 closest friends and relatives to send in gushing reviews. Before I gush, I just want to assure you this is not the case with me. This is the second Lucy Robinson book I've read, and once again, I loved it. This book had me smirking and laughing out loud constantly--and I'm actually not prone to such behavior. Fran is such a hilariously flawed heroine, and the love story unfolds wonderfully slowly so that you are very invested in it by the end. So much fun. Read both of Robinson's books, you will not be disappointed.

Fran - A Lady of Contrasts

This is a book which grew on me as it went on. Fran, the heroine, is a strange mixture of contrasting and conflicting emotions. On the one hand, despite all her self doubts, she is actually very good at her media job, and very hard working. However, when we first meet her, she has just been dumped by her boyfriend of two years duration which has devastated her. Hence she has taken to her bed on a long term basis, temporarily abandoned her job and generally given up on life.
Throughout the first third or so of the book, Fran swung between being self pitying and a manipulative, scheming stalker. I cannot say I was enjoying this very much. I thought that Fran's antics were acutely embarrassing and I was really wondering whether I would manage to read another 300 or so pages of this.
However, the other and much more appealing Fran then came to the fore. Despite, as her friend Dave summed it up, being completely mad, she began to act much more logically. She started to reason things out and cope with her professional and family issues. When disaster struck, as it did more than once, she was able to deal with it sensibly and it did not send her back to her bed. Naturally in this type of book things are not going to end up badly, but I did think that the conclusion which the author came up with was quite elegant.
This is an entertaining tale with interesting characters, and whilst undoubtedly it falls fair and square within the chick-lit genre,it is highly amusing in parts and a read which many will enjoy as I did.

I could not put this book down!

I have been reading English and Irish chicklit almost exclusively for a zillion years (in the US). It started with Hester Browne, Sophie Kinsella, and Marion Keyes. Once I finished reading all their books I started reading everything English and Irish I could get my hands on. That being said, I have read very good books, good books, not so good, and when will this book ever end books. After finishing A Love Affair with a Perfect Stranger also by Lucy Robinson (which I loved!) I hesitantly began The Greatest Love Story of All Time with the expectation that I wouldn't like it as much as the first Lucy Robinson book. I was WRONG!!
Once I got into the story there are so many twists and turns with the characters that I was stumped! Usually this type of fiction is formulaic and while this does follow the "formula" it is written so well that just when you think you've figured out what happens next, you realize you have no clue. Because of this, I couldn't put the book down. I had to know what happened next. The characters are real. There are no outlandish plots. It is a believeable story that could happen to your friend of yours.
I haven't read a book that I wanted to review before this one. If you are a great fan of chicklit or a fan of great writing, I 100% recommend this book! Ooo I just can't say it enough. Read it!
